Stainless preparation conveyor and wash section before peeling

01

Manual peeling

Operators judge each fruit and can adapt to size, shape and ripeness. The equipment is simple, but output depends on skill, working positions and inspection discipline. Labour availability and training are part of the capacity.

02

Assisted peeling

Conveyors, tooling and defined stations reduce handling and improve presentation. The line can be more consistent, but the pace and working positions must be engineered. It is still a manual judgement at the fruit.

03

Mechanical peeling

A machine uses blades, rollers or other mechanisms to remove the peel. It needs a defined fruit-size and ripeness window. The claimed rate is not a guarantee; flesh loss, peel carryover and maintenance must be measured.

04

What to trial

Run the actual fruit range, measure accepted flesh per hour, peel carryover and rejected flesh. Inspect the flesh surface and the condition of the machine after the run. A mechanical peeler that damages the fruit is not a labour saving.

Practical questions

Will an automatic peeler reduce labour?

It can reduce peeling labour, but it adds operation, maintenance and inspection work. Compare the complete labour and loss, not just the number of peelers.

Can a mechanical peeler handle different sizes?

Only within its designed window. Fruit size and ripeness variation can reduce performance or increase damage. A trial across the actual range is essential.

These notes are a project-preparation framework, not a validated operating procedure or a performance guarantee.
